About this role

We have 6-12-month ongoing or fixed term contracts AND Perm opportunities available to help support our Clients Intensive Acute Community Team (ICT) who are a specialist mental health service providing home based treatment, intake & assessment to people with complex mental health concerns.

Your goal will be to promote recovery for all mental health services users. This role will be based in Manukau/Wiri and you will be expected to see and support patients in a variety of locations including their home, health clinics or another place they feel safe. Due to this having a Drivers Licence is essential. These arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the service user. You will be expected to work full time completing rostered shifts 5 days a week, some weekends may be included. Hours generally run from 8.00am to 5:00 pm. This will be discussed and agreed once you have had your initial interview with the Client.

Essential Skills & Experience Needed:

  • Current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) with the NZ Nursing Council
  • Post-Grad Certificate in Mental Health or Psychiatric Nursing
  • Must be eligible to work in NZ with appropriate immigration visa
  • Proof of Indemnity Insurance
  • CPR training certification
  • Immunization history

Responsibilities will involve, but are not limited to:

Undertake comprehensive and accurate risk assessment of patients, work in partnership with patients, families and other health care professionals involved to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate top level care. Promote the safety of patients providing independence, quality of life and good health, can build and maintain therapeutic relationships and have a high level of verbal and written communication skills including basic counselling, negotiation and problem-solving skills, be able to work independently and at times, in challenging situations, case management, administering medication & writing and updating patient records, plus much more!

As many of the people you will see have more than one mental health concern, or are experiencing other challenges in their lives, you will help in offering a wide range of support and treatments to patients. Some of the most frequent supports particularly with this client include:

  • Talking therapy
  • Medication's
  • Support to help service users improve their health or lifestyle
  • Information and education
  • Collaboration with other services
  • Help with any work, family or social issues the service user might be experiencing.

Because this is an intensive service you will be expected to see the service user on a weekly basis, more frequently if this is requested.

Staff in this facility all work in pairs, meaning the patients will generally see a key worker (nurse or social worker) and a community support worker, as well as other mental health professionals which helps in ensuring your safety at all times.
