Our Central Auckland client is looking for an experienced Mental Health Nurse to assist their team of healthcare professionals providing primary healthcare for patients and those who are in need of ongoing care and treatments. You will be working in collaboration with the MDT, thus ensuring you are in a safe and professional environment at all times. This is a full time role, with rostered shifts for a 6 to 12 month fixed term assignment, however for the right candidate, this role can turn into a permanent opportunity and the start of a great career.

This high-to-meduim risk Correctional Facility is based in Cenral Auckland and is one of the country's largest male facilities. Corrections was formed on the principles of rehabilitation and public safety, which to this day, remain at the core of what they do. So, while working with this client, your safey and well-beign would always be priority.

Duties and responsibilities:

As a Medacs Agency Staff member working within a specialised multidisciplinary care unit,

you will be responsible for:

  • Screening and assessments of all patients in your care
  • Patient observations and administering medications
  • Providing a full range mental health care and support
  • Treatment and health promotion/education interventions
  • Implementing care, care plans, emotional support and more.


  • A minimum of two years New Zealand experience in acute nursing
  • Current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
  • Post graduate certification in Mental Health / or the equivalent
  • Up to date CPR certificate
  • Occupational Health requirements


  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as part of a MDT
  • Strong and professional work ethic
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Confident, friendly and patient focussed
  • Personable and presentable
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Problem solver - ability to come up with solutions and use initiative
