Surgical Nurse - Contracting

Job summary

We are looking to expand our team of Surgical contract Nurses for Central Auckland & North Shore. As part of our contracting team, you will take on either part time or full-time contracts which will be anywhere from 3 weeks up to 6 months in length. Shifts will be rostered and are generally Monday-Friday only however, if working on a ward you may be asked to work nights & weekends. You will be orientated to the ward/ unit and be an integral team member whilst you are there. You will take your own surgical patient load and deliver the appropriate nursing care to your assigned patients. As part of the team you will also assist your team members to ensure the functions smoothly. Your shifts will be pre-booked which offers our candidates more financial security as well as weekly pay, competitive market rates and a free uniform when you join our team!

• Endoscopy
• DHB Surgical wards
• Critical care
• Private Surgical' s
• Theatre
• Pre-& post-operative
• Day stay units

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to; Using clinical judgement, following guidelines/policies and protocols to assess and triage incoming referrals, providing patient follow ups, organise operating lists, prepare for upcoming clinics and do some other admin tasks including rescheduling, liaising with DHB staff (outpatient clinics, emergency, radiology and the lab), providing wound assessment & care, liaising with Surgeons and MDT, assisting with procedures, keeping patients and families informed of any developments in care and supporting with pre-& post-operative care.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Right to work in NZ is essential

• Have at least 1 years Surgical Nursing Experience in NZ
• Hold a Current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) with the NZ Nursing Council
• Current Indemnity Insurance
• Be able to provide referee details of x2 past Clinical Managers who can confirm your Nursing experience
• Must hold a valid and in date First aid or CPR certification
• Proven past Surgical experience
• Positive energy, enthusiastic attitude, team focused
• A strong customer service focus with excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be vaccinated against Covid-19
• Be willing to undergo pre-employment occupational health checks

Desirable extras

• Intravenous Fluid Certificate

• Pre-& Post-operative surgical experience
• Previous Surgical Admissions and day-stay experience
• Independent Vaccinator certificate
• Being familiar with MedTech 32 or MedTech Evolution (or similar) would be an advantage
