Medacs Healthcare are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Social Worker (Rural Generalist) to join our team on a full-time basis for a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2025. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact across rural and remote communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality social work services across a broad range of client needs.
  • Deliver outreach services to surrounding communities - travel required.
  • Work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Engage with clients in culturally appropriate and respectful ways.

About the Role:

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Location: Rural base with regular outreach travel to nearby communities
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
  • Accommodation: Provided
  • Travel: Reimbursed for work-related travel

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership with the AASW.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a social work role (rural experience desirable).
  • Current driver's licence.
  • Ability to work independently in remote settings.
  • Strong cultural competency and understanding of rural community dynamics.

Clinical Practice

  • Report any identified facility/system risks to relevant Line Manager for input into the approved Risk management system.
  • Deliver high level generalist social work intervention services, and where appropriate, case management services across acute, sub-acute and primary care settings,
  • Conduct independent psychosocial intervention and assessments, navigating complex discharge planning, high risk themes of domestic and family violence, child safety, sexual assault, homelessness etc. and liaison with community services. Implementation of evidence-based practice required as well as infrequent need for direct clinical supervision.

Communication / Team Participation

  • Provide high level clinical social work advice, direction and support to health professionals, stakeholders and service managers.
  • Work as an effective member of the allied health team and broader multi-disciplinary team, inclusive of attending weekly handovers, team meetings and team activities as able.
  • Monitor, report and implement current and evolving social work practices as required.

Leadership / Work Unit Management

  • Provide clinical practice supervision to students and other staff members as required.
  • Initiate and develop social work practice documentation including work instructions and procedures based on current best practice evidence.
  • Monitor and plan service development activities and service delivery growth in conjunction with the broader allied health team.
  • Actively participate in the Employee Development Plan (EDP) process and engage in continuous learning and workplace improvement and innovation.
  • Work within a quality and safety framework and actively participate in quality and safety improvement.
  • To comply with the obligation to act and make decisions in a way that is compatible with human rights and, when making a decision, to give proper consideration to human rights as required by the Human Rights Act 2019.
  • Comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations and standards which impact upon position including contemporary human resource management requirements and practices such as workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policies.
