Nurse Practitioner - Adult Community Mental Health (Leadership Role)

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner to join our Community Mental Health team in Tasmania. In this position, you will lead the delivery of high-quality, recovery-focused care within small, community-based acute services supporting adults experiencing mental health crises.

This is an opportunity to influence both clinical outcomes and service delivery while working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

About the Role

As a Nurse Practitioner, you will provide advanced clinical care and operational leadership across three community-based acute services. These teams focus on triage, assessment, and short-term interventions for people experiencing acute mental health concerns.

You will work closely with emergency departments, ambulance services, community providers, and families to ensure coordinated, trauma-informed care that supports recovery and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and risk evaluations
  • Initiate and interpret diagnostic investigations (pathology and imaging)
  • Prescribe and manage pharmacological and therapeutic interventions
  • Provide brief psychological therapies and recovery-focused care
  • Lead admission, discharge, and ongoing clinical management decisions
  • Collaborate with consumers, families, GPs, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Contribute to service improvement, workforce capability, and clinical education
  • Support operational leadership across community mental health programs

About You

You are a confident, compassionate clinician with a strong commitment to person-centred, recovery-oriented care.

To be successful you will have:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Nurse Practitioner - Essential or ability to obtain
  • A Master of Nurse Practitioner (Mental Health specialisation preferred)
  • Postgraduate qualifications in mental health or psychiatric nursing
  • Extensive experience working across a range of mental health presentations
  • Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing to team outcomes
